Design, Development, and Characterization of Low Distortion Advanced Semitransparent Photovoltaic Glass for Buildings Applications

Aesthetic appearance of building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) products, such as semitransparent PV (STPV) glass, is crucial for their widespread adoption and contribution to the net-zero energy building (NZEB) goal. However, visual distortion significantly limits aesthetics STPV glass. In this study, we investigate effect transparent periodic-micropattern-based thin-film (PMPV) panels available in market. To minimize PMPV glass panel types, design develop an aperiodic micropattern-based (APMP) that reduces distortion. The developed APMP demonstrates a haze ratio 3.7% compared 10.7% Furthermore, AMPV shows average visible transmittance (AVT) 58.3% which around 1.3 times higher than (43.8%). Finally, measured CIELAB values (L* = 43.2, a* −1.55, b* −2.86.) indicate our possesses excellent color neutrality, makes them suitable commercial applications. Based on characterization results, study will have significant impact areas smart window glasses can play vital role developing sustainable environment enhancing aesthetical buildings (NZEB).
